Where's The Other Snake

To every man there openeth
A Way, and Ways, and a Way,
And the High Soul climbs the High Way,
And the Low Soul gropes the Low,
And in between on the misty flats,
The rest drift to and fro.
But to every man there openeth
A High Way and a Low,
And every man decideth
The Way his soul shall go.

—John Oxenham

I read that yesterday, and thought it was cool.

We played a gem of a gig last weekend at The Forge in Ben Wheeler TX. It sure is a neat spot. Great vibe for art. And always full of people that seem to appreciate an original song. We've been playing there every few months the past couple of years. Food's great too. I highly recommend you try that place out if you get a chance. Tell Ross I sent you.

I had a dream last night that there were two (what I thought) venomous snakes underneath the truck I was standing directly in front of. And for some reason, instead of backing away, I needed a closer look. So I bent over to do just that, look under the truck. I was standing on white rock gravel, them bigger chunks, like washout or base rock. The kind a man has to focus when he walks across it or he could turn an ankle. So when I crouched down I could barely see the snakes, but I could see them. So then I thought it necessary to go under the truck for a closer look, you know to see if they were indeed venomous. So then I grabbed the top of the front bumper, (this was an 85 short wide Chevy btw) and my plan was to lower myself with just my arms and hand strength and core muscles. Like keeping my body in the L shape, like those real strong gymnasts do on the beam. (this is a dream, remember, my dream)

Guess what happened next? Yep just like most all of my dreams, something happens that really makes me panic and get scared. I couldn't hold the L shape. I was doing good, I was going slow and steady. I was trying not to bang the underneath of the truck (oh yeah, I had steel toe boots on) in case it would alarm the snakes. And at the same time not trying to dip down so low that they could bite me.

Then I fell. And there about a foot from my heart was the prettiest Canebrake Rattlesnake you'd ever seen. Cause I hadn't ever seen one. I've been looking, but this is the first.

Then I woke up. And I never saw the other snake.
